ITINERARY

Day 1 – ARRIVAL (5kms / Drive time – 15mins )

You will be met on arrival and be transferred to your Hotel for check in and freshen up. Thereafter and if time allows enjoy a Kigali City tour including the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre if time allows.  In the evening back to your Hotel.

  5. Day 2 – DRIVE TO NYUNGWE NP. (220kms / Drive time – 7hrs)

08:00 AM: Breakfast at the Hotel and leave the City for Nyungwe National Park via Butare Museum visit and lunch. The drive will perfectly introduce you to the real

Rwanda....”Land of a Thousand Hill and a Million Smiles”. Curvy and a smooth road will make your long drive all enjoyable. Arrive at your lodge for dinner overnight.

Day 3 – CHIMPANZEE TREKKING IN NYUNGWE’s NP – CYAMUNDONGO FOREST

(Distance : Approx. 45kms / Time taken with Chimpanzees : 1hr) / Canopy Walk for about 1.5hrs..
05:00 AM: The 4 Adults take an early morning breakfast drive to this park for the starting point of your Chimpanzee trek. Two species of chimpanzee occur in Africa. There is the Bonobo and the Common Chimpanzee Pan troglodytes (often shortened to Chimpanzee, and sometimes referred to as the Robust Chimpanzee).

Lunch by 2 pm – enjoy a Canopy walk and thereafter back to the lodge  / hotel for dinner.

Day 4 – DRIVE FROM NYUNGWE TO KIBUYE. (Distance : Approx. 120 Kms /Drive time – 3hrs)

08:00 AM : Breakfast at your Hotel and check out for a drive to the north along the beautiful shores of Lake Kivu to Kibuye town, and check in at Cormoran Lodge for lunch. Afternoon drive / walk visit with the town meeting the local people or relax by the beaches of Lake Kivu and thereafter dinner.

Day 5 – BOAT TRANSFER FROM  KIBUYE TO GISENYI. (Cruise time – 2hrs)

This will be a unique day. You will be transferred from Kibuye to Gisenyi by a speed boat (takes about 2 hours as opposed to a 4-hrs drive! Your driver Guide will liaise with the Boat Captain to pick you up from the lodge by 09:00 a:m before his 2 hrs earlier departure.

He will then meet up with you at Gisenyi dock and proceed on to a City tour on Gisenyi town border to Goma, DRC Congo town border. Compare the 2 towns and learn more..

Day 6 –  DRIVE TO MUSANZE. (Distance : Approx. 60kms / Drive time – 1hr)

Have a relaxed breakfast at the Resort and thereafter and check out for a drive up to Musanze town, the second largest town in Rwanda, with a stunning backdrop of Five well lined up Virunga mountains forming the famous Rwanda’s Volcanoes NP, famous home to the endangered Mountain Gorillas. Lunch in town as you visit the town markets and the main business areas and make more friends who will be happy to share some of their life experiences in their daily routines. Thereafter proceed to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.

Day 7 – GORILLA TRACKING EXPERIENCE! (Distance : Approx. 35kms /Time with Gorillas : 1hr)

06:30 AM: Enjoy an early breakfast and be transferred to Volcanoes National Park headquarters at Kinigi and for Gorilla tracking registration and briefing. Kindly ensure to have original passports to match the Gorilla permits details provided at the time of booking.

By 07:00 : AM: You will be divided into groups of 8 persons per Park Guide and he will conduct a Gorilla tracking briefing on the dos and don’ts as well as the history of the Gorilla Family to be visited.

By 08:00: AM: Leave the headquarters to the head trail where you will begin the Gorilla tracking experience in the forest. Depending of where the Gorilla family allocated is on that particular day, the treks vary and ranges from Half Hour to about  6hrs. Good hiking boots, rain jackets, hats and hand gloves are recommended. After Gorilla tracking drive back to the lodge for freshen up and lunch. Afternoon at leisure around the lodge or find enough time to admire your photos and Videos on the Gorilla tracking activitie. Late afternoon enjoy the traditional dance with the local dancers.

Day 8 – GOLDEN MONKEYS TREK  + RETURN TO KIGALI & DEPART

Time taken with the Golden Monkeys : 1hr) & (110kms / Drive time – 2hrs back to Kigali City)
After breakfast at your Hotel leave for the Volcanoes NP, this time for Golden Monkeys trek. The adult monkeys frolic in plain view, feeding on bamboo leaves and leaping from perch to perch. Females carry their young, completely comfortable among onlookers. Return to your hotel to freshen up, have lunch and thereafter drive back to Kigali and proceed on to Kigali Airport for your evening departure flight.

Day 2 – GORILLA TRACKING (Time taken with Gorillas:1hr)  +  TWIN LAKES VISIT

Early breakfast and proceed to the National Park headquarters for a Gorilla tracking experience in the Volcanoes National Park. Once you spot them you are allowed to spend an hour watching. This is perhaps one of the most breathtaking wildlife experiences on earth!!! You get so close to these awesome giant primates. Tracking the gorillas through the light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virunga is a magical experience. The trekking may be fairly strenuous; sometimes up to six hours or longer at a relatively high altitude. Your driver guide to request a shorter group for you if you cannot trek far OR if you have another activity in the afternoon. It is important to bring good hiking boots, long trousers, gloves for protection against stinging nettles, some snacks & sweets as well as sufficient water to re-energize yourselves. After Gorilla tracking return to your Lodge for lunch and in the afternoon visit the Twin Lakes of Lakes Burera and Ruhondo, no additional costs on this. You will drive to the view point where you will view the two lakes and the entire beautiful scenery of the five Volcanic Mountains stretching all the way to Congo DRC borders. Day 3 – GOLDEN MONKEYS TREK(Time taken with Monkeys:1hr) >TO LAKE KIVU (60kms / 1hr)

An early breakfast and head to the Park for Golden Monkey trekking in the Volcanoes National Park. Entering dense stands of bamboo interspersed with open glades; you will make your way deep into golden monkey territory. Guides lead visitors to the habitat of groups of ‘habituated’ golden monkeys – monkeys that have become accustomed to human presence. Though viewing is kept to a maximum of one hour, travellers can get an up-close look at the golden monkey in its natural habitat. Back to the Hotel for an early lunch and thereafter drive to Lake Kivu and enjoy a Gisenyi City tour, the border town to Congo DRC, Goma City is seen right across the borderline, interesting to compare the 2 cities…Proceed on to your Hotel or Resort for dinner and overnight.

Day 4 – BOAT RIDE + DRIVE BACK TO KIGALI ( 160kms / 3hrs)
Breakfast in the morning leave for a morning boat ride on the Lake Kivu to different interesting spots on the Lake, hot springs and perhaps mingle with Fishermen and learn their daily ways of life. Later back to the Hotel for lunch and drive back to Kigali Airport for your evening departure flight (own booked).

2 Days Akagera Wildlife Tour in Rwanda

Day 1: Arrive at Akagera National 

You will drive to the east of Rwanda to Akagera National Park after being briefed about your safari. You will have an afternoon game drive in the park and you will be able to see a variety of birds and animals such as elephant, giraffe, buffalo, spotted hyena, hippo, and crocodiles. Dinner and overnight at Akagera Safari Lodge.

Day 2: Canoe Ride/ Game Drive
After breakfast, you either go for a morning game drive in the park again or a canoe ride on Lake Ihema to see the large number of hippo, the huge Nile crocodile and birds. Later proceed back to Kigali.

7 day Rwanda gorilla and cultural tour

The cultural tour begins with a trip to Umwami’s palace in Nyanza, proceeding to the locally revered hot springs of Rugarama near Nyungwe Forest in South West of Rwanda. You may drive to Gisenyi, where Ross Carr’s orphanage with thousands of orphans is found. Visit a local lake. End your trip in Ruhengeri, where the Batwa pigmies, an animist community were recently resettled. Here a cultural performance by the Batwa can be organized for you. In case you are interested in visiting the genocide memorials in Gisenyi, Butare and Ruhengeri, our tour guide will be able to take you there. You can now return to Kigali.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Nyungwe Tour
After breakfast transfer to Nyungwe Forest with stop-over at local markets along the way. Visit the traditional palace of Rwanda’s Former King in Nyanza. Drive past green fields of tea scattered across the hillsides and the small wooden houses characteristic of the surrounding forest. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge (BLD)

Day 2: A trip to Butare Cultural Museum
After breakfast tour the Botanical Gardens and a cultural museum in Butare. Then transfer to the hot springs in Bugarama. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge (BLD)

Day 3: Lake Kivu Tour
After breakfast undertake a primates tracking tour in the Nyungwe Forest in search of immense troops of Angolan Colobus and the Golden monkeys, and the chimpanzees. In the afternoon after your lunch, drive to Gisenyi. Enjoy swimming in the bilharzia-free fresh water of Lake Kivu. The background of the lake is beautified by Nyiragongo Volcano which recently erupted in 2002. Dinner and overnight at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel (FB)

Day 4: Early in the morning transfer northwards to Musanze.

After breakfast tour Karisoke Gorilla Research Centre started by Dian Fossey, the famous primatologist. Later in the day transfer back to Kigali. In case you still have time, you can have a city tour – visit the Nyabugogo market, the Moslem quarter in Nyamirambo, the Franco-Rwanda cultural center and a genocide memorial Centre.

6 Days Gorillas, Chimpanzees, Primates and Birdwatching Tour in Rwanda – PNV and Nyungwe

A 6 day safari, which starts and ends in Kigali.
The tour takes visits to Nyungwe, in South West of Rwanda, a huge afro-montane forest. With over 10000sq.km in size, Nyungwe is the undisputed giant in Central Africa. The natural forest is renowned for its large troops of colobus monkeys, chimpanzees, butterflies and a rich variety of orchids. Over 300 bird species have been recorded. Visit some cultural sites en route – the Museum in Butare and the palace at Nyanza.
Visit Parc National des Volcans (PNV) in the north of Rwanda where about 300 mountain gorillas live. You can track gorillas, climb the Visoke volcano, track the golden monkeys or visit the Karisoke Research Centre, which Dian Fossey the famous primatologist set up, or visit local villages.

DAY 1: Arrive at Kanombe ( Kigali) airport. Meet, greet and start for Nyungwe Forest National Park. Along the way, make stops at places of interest including local markets, the traditional palace of Rwanda’s Former King in Nyanza. Drive past green fields of tea scattered across the hillsides and the small wooden houses unique to the areas surrounding Nyungwe Forest. [Approximate driving time: 6 hours]
DAY 2 : Guided nature walk in the forest to see a variety of animals and some of the three hundred bird species found here, which include the Rwenzori turaco and black and white casqued hornbill. Go on an escorted walk in search of large groups of colobus monkeys – sometimes as many as 400 in a group. OR go chimp tracking. Picnic lunch. Return late afternoon.
DAY 3: Return to Kigali. Along the way, in Butare, visit the Botanical Gardens and a cultural museum. Arrive Kigali City in time for lunch. Afterwards drive north to Kinigi via Ruhengeri. Enjoy the rolling hills for which Rwanda is well known.

DAY 4 :Transfer to Kinigi Park Headquarters to track gorillas in Parc National des Volcans. Gorilla tracking through the forest, hills and swamps can be tough, arduous and tiring, sometimes taking up to 8 hours in the forest. But coming face to face with the great primates is well worth the effort.

Have breakfast and go to ORTPN offices for briefing after that set off in the forest for Gorilla trekking. A thrilling trek through the refined foothills of the Virungas provides inspiring views in all directions. Then, suddenly, the trail enters the national park, engrossing trekkers in the strange closeness of the rainforest, alive with the calls of colorful birds and chattering of the rare golden monkey, and besieged with fresh spoor of the mountains’ elusive populations of buffalo and elephant. Through gaps in the forest canopy, the marvelous peaks are sighted, easily easy to get to and among the uppermost in Africa, indicating an ascent. Gorilla trekking is quite strenuous but a worthwhile on encounter of these gentle giants. The enthusiasm of your coming across with these apes will wipe away your intricacy of the strenuous trek. Spend time watching gorillas, watch the adults feeding their young ones, brushing and resting as the youngsters play from vines in a pleasurably playful display.

4 Days of Rwanda gorillas, primates with Golden Monkeys Tracking

This is a 4 day safari which starts and ends in Kigali- Rwanda. One gorilla permit for Parc Nationale des Volcanoes is included in the cost but the other gorilla trackings require other permits to be paid at time of booking. Having a chance to see some of the last remaining 880 mountain gorillas in the world is a wonderful experience. It offers you an opportunity to track gorillas two times. Parc Nationale des Volcanoes in Rwanda has five habituated gorilla families and tracking most groups in the afro-montane forest usually takes a few hours. You can also climb a volcano, visit the remains of Dian Fossey’s grave or visit the endangered golden monkey.

Day 1

Your guide will take you on a tour of the new and vibrant capital city of Kigali. The new prosperity features a number of thriving markets and features the mountain terrain famous in Rwanda. A sober contrast to its recent history. For survivors and others whose families were murdered in Rwanda´s genocide 1994, the Memorial sites and centres are places of dignified remembrance for loved ones lost. It is also a place of reflection and learning for the wider community, both in Rwanda and internationally.
Ranging in altitude from 2400km to 4,507 the Volcanoes National Park (French: Parc National des Volcans) is dominated by the setting of volcanoes after which it is named. Best known to the outside world as the place where for almost 20yrs the American primatologist Dian Fossey under took her pioneering studies of mountain gorilla behaviour. Day hikes to see the gorilla families can be strenuous on tracks climbing through the forest, and time is very limited once contact is made with the gorilla families. It is a rare and memorable experience to visit with these giant cousins of man.
Our accommodation is ideally positioned for those who want to watch animals in their habitat, specifically the endangered Rwanda Mountain Gorillas that still roam these areas. Share in the cuisine of Rwanda, which is served with the hospitality for which we all return to African countries. Either go gorilla tracking again (on payment of supplement at time of booking), or visit the golden monkeys in Volcanoes National Park or climb the Visoke/Muhavura volcanoes, or trek to Dian Fossey’s grave, or visit the local school, community projects or walk to Lake Bulera.

Day 4:KIGALI CITY TOUR AND RETURN HOME

Following breakfast, you will leave for Kigali. Go for a City tour including visits to the market, a pottery project, handicraft shops, the Franco-Rwandan cultural centre and the genocide memorial. Have lunch enroute and then Transfer to the airport.

3 Days Nyungwe Chimpanzee tour

Nyungwe is the largest montane forest in Central Africa with 13 species of primate; these include chimpanzee and large groups of Rwenzori colobus. Tracking in Nyungwe Forest National Park is on steep slippery hillsides and viewing is unpredictable. Around 300 bird species, orchids and butterflies are other attractions. Nyungwe’s biodiversity is astonishnyungwe chimps touring by African standards and is one of the most endemic species-rich areas in whole of Africa.

Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast at your Hotel in Kigali, you will be transferred to Nyungwe Forest National Park. En route visit the old King’s Palace in Nyanza. Have lunch and after proceed with your journey to the Park. Dinner and overnight at Gisakura Guest House/Nyungwe Forest Lodge

Day 2 :Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe Forest
Breakfast will be served early morning and after you will proceed to the park headquarters for briefing at 6:00am. Unlike other countries like Uganda where chimpanzee tracking activity starts at 8:00am, here in Nyungwe forest National Park the activity starts at 6:00am. You will enter into the forest when its dark but you will be able to see primate species such as Colobus monkeys, forest birds and later, you will be able to see the chimpanzees when its laready day time. Return to your lodge after the tracking for Lunch and in the afternoon, you will set out for the guided forest walk with in the Forest. Return for dinner and overnight stay at Gisakura Guest House/Nyungwe Forest Lodge

Day 3: Transfer back to Kigali and departure
Have an early morning breakfast and after transfer back to Kigali. En route to the City you will have lunch and also visit the Rwanda National Museum in Butare town. Proceed to Kigali where you will be dropped off at the Airport to catch your flight back home.

This is a 3 day safari which starts and ends in Kigali- Rwanda. One gorilla permit for Parc Nationale des Volcanoes is included in the cost. Having a chance to see some of the last remaining 880 mountain gorillas in the world is a wonderful experience. It offers you an opportunity to track gorillas in Parc Nationale des Volcanoes in Rwanda has 10 habituated gorilla families and tracking most groups in the afro-montane forest usually takes a few hours.

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Kinigi for your Gorilla Tracking

Airport transfer with private vehicle and guide. Transfer to Volcanoes National Park the home of gorilla tracking activity in Rwanda with private vehicle and driver. Your guide will take you on a tour of the new and vibrant capital city of Kigali. The new prosperity features a number of thriving markets and features the mountain terrain famous in Rwanda. A sober contrast to its recent history. For survivors and others whose families were murdered in Rwanda´s genocide 1994, the Memorial sites and centres are places of dignified remembrance for loved ones lost. It is also a place of reflection and learning for the wider community, both in Rwanda and internationally.
Ranging in altitude from 2400km to 4,507 the Volcanoes National Park (French: Parc National des Volcans) is dominated by the setting of volcanoes after which it is named. Best known to the outside world as the place where for almost 20yrs the American primatologist Dian Fossey under took her pioneering studies of mountain gorilla behaviour. Day hikes to see the gorilla families can be strenuous on tracks climbing through the forest, and time is very limited once contact is made with the gorilla families. It is a rare and memorable experience to visit with these giant cousins of man.
Our accommodation is ideally positioned for those who want to watch animals in their habitat, specifically the endangered Rwanda Mountain Gorillas that still roam these areas. Share in the cuisine of Rwanda, which is served with the hospitality for which we all return to African countries. Take walks, learn more about the gorillas, and absorb the gorgeous surrounding landscape.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking, Parc National des Volcans

Have breakfast and go to RDB offices for briefing after that set off in the forest for Gorilla trekking. A thrilling trek through the refined foothills of the Virungas provides inspiring views in all directions. Then, suddenly, the trail enters the national park, engrossing trekkers in the strange closeness of the rainforest, alive with the calls of colorful birds and chattering of the rare golden monkey, and besieged with fresh spoor of the mountains’ elusive populations of buffalo and elephant. Through gaps in the forest canopy, the marvelous peaks are sighted, easily easy to get to and among the uppermost in Africa, indicating an ascent. Gorilla trekking is quite strenuous but a worthwhile on encounter of these gentle giants. The enthusiasm of your coming across with these apes will wipe away your intricacy of the strenuous trek. Spend time watching gorillas, watch the adults feeding their young ones, brushing and resting as the youngsters play from vines in a pleasurably playful display.

Day 3: Return to Kigali, visit Genocide memorial/museum and transfer to airport
Following breakfast, you will leave for Kigali. Go for a City tour including visits to the market, a pottery project, handicraft shops, the Franco-Rwandan cultural centre and the genocide memorial. Have lunch enroute and then Transfer to the airport.
